GENERAL PLOT

Long ago Yōkai lived peacefully alongside Humans. These supernatural creatures were not feared and the nefarious tales surrounding them did not exist. Many Yōkai were revered as deities while others were not embraced into Human society. During the Edo Period there were many rumors about Yōkai killing innocent people. The hearsay traveled all throughout the land to more populated areas of Japan. When this happened, Japan Leaders feared Yōkai would eventually turn on the Human race. It was decided by these Leaders that Yōkai would no longer be treated as allies but now enemies.

A war between Yōkai and Human commenced and it would last up to five years. The war finally ended when Japan Leaders enlisted the help of the Hiroshi Clan. This clan had the power to ward off Yōkai and finish the battle once and for all. This group of men called themselves Onmyōji. For all their help with battling the Yōkai, the Hiroshi Clan was appointed as nobility and given riches beyond comprehension. The Hiroshi Clan made the declaration that they and future generations of Onmyōji would protect Japan from all Yōkai.

After the end of the Edo Period, the once tranquil society Yōkai lived in was no more. After their defeat against the Humans, many Yōkai went into hiding. Yōkai were only mentioned in Japanese folklore and it never depicted them in good light. There were a few Yōkai who tried to repair their tarnished images, but that proved to be more difficult than expected. The Onmyōji protecting Japan would annihilate them on sight. Life for a Yōkai was hard during this time.

Unaware to the Humans, for the past century Yōkai have been gradually shaping a world of their own. Unfortunately the resources available to them to cultivate their new society were limited. In 2014, Yōkai started to reveal their presence again.
