AME-ŌKAMI NO MIKOTOAge: 700
Gender: Female
Race: Ookami (Wolf) Yōkai
Sexuality: Pansexual
Occupation: Traveling Songstress
Appearance: Full Yōkai Form -
Humanoid Yōkai Form (Human form is simply no markings and no ears/tails of this form)
Face Claim: Ōkami,
Amaterasu; Mikoto Ame.
Personality: Ame is a sweet child. She has brightness and a gentle personality that seems to make others think of her more as a puppy then a seven century old Ookami. She is very helpful and kind, always making sure that people around her is happy, human or not. She might not be able to grant miracles, but she does her best to aid, often coming in the dead of night with some herbs to cast a sense of dream like illusion to give the people advice. She likes seeing people smile and be happy of course, that's why she's always making sure that the people around her are content. She might be considered a bit childish, since she likes to play around a lot and doesn't seem to take things seriously.
However, despite Ame's sweet gentleness, she can be a bit moody at times, getting huffy and puffy at people when they treat her like a child. She hates being treated like a child, and tends to react to it a lot more than most would, with pouting and huffing. She also seems to sometime have an attention span problem, as she tends to look blankly at people when they talk to her, but seems to shake it off rather easily at times. Other times, she just starts to snooze right in their faces, which has gotten her in trouble more than once in her life time. Despite that, she always seems to find some way to cling to people, and likes touching them... although it irritates a lot of them.
However, despite her carefree attitude, a few have seen Ame become serious. As she is generally a really relaxed person, the metamorphosis that happens can only be described as her awakening. When it becomes the time to be serious, all sort of childish measures fade from Ame's personality. She becomes a strong, calm and soothing presence to her allies, but a terrifying one to her foes. That inherent warmness is discarded and instead stands before them a proud wolf, one that has been worshiped a Guardian Deity for years by the people. This strength and understanding of when to take her responsibilities is perhaps what birthed the rumours that follow her about this switch.
That deep inside she keeps the darkness, and offers light to the people that pray to her, hoping that she would never have to come to bear on enemies. Her gentle disposition was an early attempt at diplomacy, and that her true nature is hidden deep within herself. One would understand that she has a very dutiful nature, as she always makes sure her tasks are done for the day before fooling around. Only one Yōkai has survived encountering the serious Ame, and it is said that this Yōkai refuses to even go near the girl now. Perhaps it is for the better, but many are curious as to what happens when Ame fully discards her childish side, and becomes a serious person, ready to defend what she protects.
History: It is said, that in times past, Ookami Yōkai hunted humans. That they sought to eat their flesh to sustain themselves, their livers for strength. Humans were afraid of these Ookami, as they had no weapon strong enough to fend off a pack. However, in a secluded area, there is a tale that is descended through the Wakahisa family. This tale is very simple, and is of only word of mouth, as it happened centuries ago. And the tale, begins with the Maiden of the family, Ame-hime.
Ame-hime was walking at the river near the village. She was meant to wash the clothes of her family, the basket snug against her. Despite her family's fears, she had ventured alone to the river, very near the woods where the fearsome Ookami lived. On the banks of the river, lay a white wolf. It was beautiful, it's coat like fresh snow, and a limber body with strength. Ame-hime was worried for the wolf, as she gently placed her basket to the side. Looking over the wolf, she noted the injury in it's side. As Ame-hime was known for her kind heart, she took her own clothes in the basket, and dipped them in the river, before gently washing the blood away from the wolf. The wolf had no energy to growl and snap at her, but it let the girl clean it's wound, and even bind it. She then washed the clothes, before making sure the wolf was all right. Later that day, she returned with food, feeding the wolf. It is said that this wolf reminded the girl of a protector, as she fed the wolf and cared for it. A week after it's discovery, Ame-hime came to the river only to find her cloth folded, and the wolf gone. Gently, she prayed to Amaterasu to keep the wolf safe. It was this even that perhaps changed the fate of the village, so it is said.
One day, the village was attacked directly by the Ookami. The villagers tried their best, but many were felled. The Yōkai were making their way to the home of Ame-hime, as she was the most beautiful maiden in the village. The leader of the Ookami demanded her in exchanged to keep the village safe. Understanding this, she donned a white robe. For the white sacrificial robe demanded she be given to the Ookami, a hint of her lost bloodline from the Age of Gods. Elegantly, she stepped towards the Ookami King, ready to fall at his hands. That was when a white blur clouded their sight: the wolf that Ame-hime had helped recover attacked the Ookami king. A long grueling battle began, Ame-hime praying for the wolf to be safe. She would not pray for it's victory, but rather it's safety. The battle was intense, as the Ookami King was surprised that a normal seeming wolf was fighting on equal grounds with him. In rage, he lashed out, injuring both Maiden and Wolf. The Maiden however, crawled to the Wolf, gently praying still. She knew her wounds were fatal, but still prayed for the wolf to live. In a final, desperate measure, she asked the Wolf to do something that no Maiden should ask.
To eat her flesh, to take her liver. In payment, the Wolf would protect the village in her place. The villagers, horrified, watched as the Maiden offered her life for their safety. With a whine, the Wolf accepted. The Ookami King shook off his rage, only to see the Maiden, dead, and the White Wolf's nuzzle blood red. With a strong howl, the White Wolf called to the sun and moon. With a burst of power, the wolf was no longer simple. Along it's body, were beautiful red designs, symbolic of the Maiden's blood that coursed through it's veins. The battle was still grueling, but the White Wolf was victorious on the Ookami King. As his body lay for all villagers to see, the White Wolf claimed dominion over the Ookami, and sent them away, to never come to the village again. Then, the wolf whined and curled next to the Maiden, sadness overwhelming the entire village. As it was twilight, peeks of sun and moon showed. A beautiful light echoed, and the Wolf glowed white, as did the body of the Maiden. When the light receded, the Maiden's form was nowhere to be founds, neither was the Wolf's. In their place, stood a white haired woman, with markings like the wolf, but the frame of the Maiden. The villagers understood the God's will then, understanding that their Maiden's selflessness and the Wolf's wish to honour that, had given them a Guardian Deity.
From that day, they worshiped the Maiden White Wolf, naming her Ame-Ōkami no Mikoto. This tale survived within the Wakahisa family for generations. However, there is more to the tale, something that was left for last for the curious.
Ame-Ōkami no Mikoto guarded the village's people, not the land. Almost like a ghost, few saw the actual being, but for in dreams. Ame-Ōkami was hidden from the eyes of many, in a way to protect the people she had always protected. However, she would show herself once more. For when the village was attacked, and nearly extinguished, the form of their Guardian came, protecting the surving members. Following them as a companion, the Guardian Deity helped settle them within a new land. As such, the family build a shrine for the Ookami, a place where they could come and pray if needed. However, time passed, and Ame-Ōkami understood that slumber was the only way to preserve the village's family, for they needed her not now. Other Yōkai were beginning to sniff around, trying to take the measure of the Ookami. And thus, she spoke to them, telling them what needed to be done. 'Wake me when the time has come. When the ripples of unrest reach your new home, and your family is at it's end, awaken me then.' she claimed, before stepping into the Shrine they had build for her. They sealed her away, and rest she had done, from then until now.
This tale was passed for years, but very few of them believed it. One day, a small child played near the shrine, and claimed they saw a white wolf. Dismissing it, the family came under catastrophe. The child, it's mother, two men and another child, hid within the shrine for safety when an attack brought down the home. Within the shrine, they saw a beautiful crystal. As the Shrine was protected and forbidden, it was a surprise to see this structure. The small child that had seen the wolf, walked to the crystal and cried. Cried for the people lost, the calamity that had befallen their home, unbeknownst to them, of the random Yōkai that in their need to gain a territory, murdered the family. It was seen as fire from the outside. The child cried, and the crystal glowed, before shattering into thousands of tiny pieces, floating in the air like dust. Then, light shone from the center, and out came a beautiful girl, of white hair and red eyes. Of wolf ears and tail, with markings of blood like colour, and a gentle light. However, the child realized that the awakened Ookami was weak. Praying loudly to the Deity, light seemed to restore a fragment to the creature. The other people in the cavern were stunned. However, the other child began praying too, with the smaller child, and more light restored to the deity.
Then it was understood, as the adults conferred with the being. And then they too began to pray in Ame-Ōkami, for they now understood. Remnants of a village, teaching a demon that ages past had went to sleep, of the new world. Barely having the strength to maintain a human form, the Ookami was taken in by the Wakahisa family. As to not desecrate the title of their deity, they suggested that her mortal name be Mikoto Ame. Agreeing, the Yōkai realized that things had gone wrong for the family she always protected. As such, she sought strength, and understanding of the situation.
Only to find herself in a world she no longer understood, and an age long war she had no idea about, stuck between two different sides and only trying to find the answer of whom dared to kill her family in such brutal manners.
Fear: Ame's fear is of a
belief reliant nature. This is perhaps due to her humble origins, as it affects her very power. The more belief she has of others, the more powerful she becomes, truly becoming a beacon when many praise and pray to her. This is because Ame's fear is based around the fact that she is an Ōkami, as such her full name is Ame-Ōkami no Mikoto. The more she is praised and worshiped, the more divine she seems to be in nature. This generally makes it difficult for Yōkai to battle Ame, as her fear is generally associated as a Divine nature rather then a Demonic nature that is more natural to Yōkai.
Jingi [Divine Instrument] - A single, but very powerful Fear. However, that is due to how flexible this fear is. The fear can, in itself, shift into three forms. Kagami (Mirror), Magatama (Rosary) and Tsurugi (Glaive). These three forms have each their own unique points. However, it is noted that only two forms can be present of Jingi at a time, one functioning as a main and the other functioning as a sub. Due to this intense complexity, it is Ame's only Fear to exist, despite how powerful she has become before. However, due to her long slumber, a lot of the actual power behind her fear is missing, as she hasn't recovered all of the aspects of her fear.
- Kagami is a sort of Fear that has it's primary connotations within defensive measures. Depending on how strong she is believed in, it is said that the Kagami Jingi can reflect, or defend against any type of fear, even unknown fear. On a main capability, a Kagami can reflect, block, and defend against various fears. At her highest level, it becomes plausible to even block the Yōkai King's fear. As a sub capability, the Kagami becomes only able to take the edge off of attacks, making them hurt much less then they normally would.
- Magatama is a sort of Fear that has it's primary connotations within supportive measures. It is generally used to strengthen allies and heal them, as the beads can be assemble for any purpose that Ame bears fit. However, this makes it very difficult to manage as well, as such it is not a recommended fear to use. The way the Magatama fear works is by transfering Ame's own fear onto the target, and apply an effect depending on the number of beads used. As the Magatama fear comes with 9 beads, there are 9 possible effects. However, currently Ame has only discovered 2. A single Magatama bead allows her to transfer power onto the ally, increasing their fear strength. Two Magatama beads allow her to heal wounds, both internal and external. However, it only works on non-fatal and non-grievous wounds. As a sub utility, the Magatama gives a passive buff to Ame, once again dependent on the number of Magatama beads. One bead gives her more force in her Fear, two beads allow her to recover faster then normal.
- Tsurugi is a sort of Fear that has it's primary connotations within offensive measures. This is the heavy hitter of Ame's fear. As it takes all of the praise and belief offered to Ame, and transforms it into a very sharp power, aiming to cut through any obstacle by sheer force of belief. Due to it's flexible shape, it's often in different weapons, however the most common is a sword, as it is easier to wield in human form. As a sub utility, it simply gives her fears a more powerful punch, often making them much more effective.
